Not Opera Lane

Not Opera Lane

This is not the Opera Lane you know of if you visit Cork today. It’s Faulkner’s Lane off Emmet Place in Cork. Before that block was almost completely razed to the ground it was a narrow, dark little street, but a public street. According to this thread it’s not even a “right of way” anymore. A photographer I’m friends with on Facebook discovered this when he tried shooting models in Opera Lane. Security staff informed him he was on private property and would have to move.

On the proposal of Comhairleoir B. Bermingham, seconded by Comhairleoir J.
Buttimer, An Chomhairle approved the report of the Assistant City Manager dated
29th November, 2007, regarding the extinguishment of the Public Right of Way at
Fauklner’s Lane, Cork. An Chomhairle also agreed to adopt the following
resolution:-
“Now An Chomhairle hereby RESOLVES THAT
Having considered any representations and/or objections which were received in
writing within the prescribed statutory period setout in section 73 (1) (a) of the
Roads Act, 1993, it is now hereby Ordered that the Public Right of Way at
Faulkner’s Lane from its junction with Emmet Place in a south-easterly direction
along Faulkner’s Lane for a distance of approximately 80 metres to a point
approximately 18 metres from its junction with St. Patrick’s Street, is
extinguished forthwith”.

The original minutes of that meeting are now gone unfortunately. (via corkpastandpresent.ie)
